On 30 November 2009, Nance Klehm led her Northwestern students in an excavation of a rock covered in half a century's-worth of paint layers. Part of the removed layered paint skin was accessioned into the Resistance Archive at NWU library.

From the original e-mail to her students:

‘please bring an exacto blade w/extra blades, a knife, a sanding block with extra coarse paper and help             excavate through decades and decades of colorfully painted advertisements of this everlasting                             gobstopper to reach its ice age heart.

how many hands and how much time will it take to get to the core of the matter?’
